E-commerce & Retail

Storefronts, catalogues and order systems judged on conversion, page speed and what happens at peak.

Where we help

Storefronts and checkout flows, product and inventory data models, order management, the integration layer between commerce platform, ERP and fulfilment, and the analytics needed to tell a merchandising problem from an engineering one.

What makes this sector different

The feedback loop is unusually short and unusually honest. Latency has a measurable effect on conversion, so performance work here is a revenue argument rather than a quality one — and it is one of the few sectors where a performance budget can be defended with a number.

Correctness matters in a specific place: inventory. Overselling costs more than a slow page, because it fails after the customer has already paid. Keeping stock consistent across a storefront, a marketplace and a warehouse system is a distributed-systems problem wearing retail clothing, and it is usually where the real engineering sits.

Peak events are known in advance, which removes any excuse for being surprised by them. Load testing against a dated calendar is part of delivery, not a contingency.
